My educational background is rooted in the essentialist philosophy of education. I have also rooted my pedagogical values in progressivism. I intend to take these philosophies with me into my teaching while leaving room for these values to change in the future.
A goal of mine as an educator is to help students to learn in effective ways while also building their skills at pushing past personal blockages. I aim to include growth based and trauma informed learning in my classroom. I plan to do this by continuing to learn and try methods developed by other educators to see what works for me and my class.
A scholarly goal of mine will be to continue to learn about educational theory, new methods of teaching, and general advancements in the field. I intend to do this by engaging in professional development and learning from my colleagues, from those who have decades of experience to new teachers entering the field.
My ultimate classroom goals are that I aim to have students walk out of my classroom as better citizens of the world with knowledge on why the curriculum content matters and relates to their lives.
